« Backstage saved my life, basically. When I was going to give up acting completely and I was on the phone with my mother in New York City, saying, ‘Couldn’t you just send me a couple of hundred dollars? I’ll pay you back.’ I’d been sleeping on a bench in Penn Station for two weeks. I had an old copy of Backstage, and there was this casting call in the back, and she said, ‘Well, I’ll give you a ticket to come home, but I’m not going to send you any money.’ I said, ‘Okay, well, I have this audition first,’ as if I had some big audition. It was a cattle call in the back of Backstage, and I went to it and I got my first job from that [Backstage], and I’ve been working ever since. I have very romantic feelings about Backstage because of that. »
